Reflections

There are a few things that come along in life that are constant reminders of what is really important, or who are most valuable to us in our lives.
This last holiday weekend, Labor Day weekend, marked our thirty second year here in Durango. The church today is entirely different than what it was thirty two years ago. The name of the church was Durango Baptist Temple, today it is Grace Church. There were fifteen people in attendance that first Sunday and the offering was under one hundred dollars. Thank the Lord there have been some big changes. One thing that has not changed is our message. Our methods are totally different but the Gospel never changes. We are looking forward to our greatest years and we are enjoying the ministry more than ever. Sue and I want to thank Grace church for their faithfulness to Christ in our ministry together.
My wife left this morning for California with her dad and brother who have been with us for three weeks. I miss her and she hasn’t been gone an hour. I have been so tremendously blessed by having one of the blessed jewels the Lord has to be my wife and partner in ministry for forty one years. Thank you Lord!

Heritage

It's so exciting to spend time with our children and grandchildren. This month we have been able to spend time with all our family. To see the excitement and sheer joy in the lives of our grandchildren is such a blessing. The Lord is indeed gracious and full of mercy. I had the joy of finding some old ledgers in my mother’s belongings that were from my great, great grandfather, John Ross. It is such a blessing to read of his faith in Jesus Christ and learn how he trusted the Lord for his daily needs. I hope and pray that we can leave a testimony of God’s amazing grace for generations to come. Psa.71:18 “Now also when I am old and gray headed, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.” What a heritage! What an opportunity!

What a blessed day!

What a blessed day. In fact this must be said about every day I have in Christ. I quite often fail to appropriate all that is mine in Christ on a daily basis and the result of that is my flesh then has a heyday. I get grumpy, defeated, etc. when in fact with the life of Jesus Christ as my life I should never allow such things to rule my life. Here’s the truth of this matter, it’s found in Col.3:3-4 “For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” Imagine, Christ living in me! WOW! That is as true as John 3:16 and yet so many days go by without even acknowledging this wonderful reality in the hearts and minds of so many believers. The very life of Christ is our life. Rom.5:10 “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, how much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.” Here is a statement from the book, THE MYSTERY OF GODLINESS, by Ian Thomas, “To be in Christ, that is redemption, but for Christ to be in you, that is sanctification. To be in Christ, that makes you fit for heaven, but for Christ to be in you, that makes you fit for earth. To be in Christ, that changes your destination, but for Christ to be in you, that changes your destiny. The one makes heaven your home, the other makes this world His workshop.”
Let’s be sure to learn to die to ourselves and allow this wonderful reality to be evident in our lives, every day. WHAT A BLESSED DAY!
